Hello, my name is Joshua and I am a birdaholic. I have grown up bird hunting my whole life. I began as a small child with my BB gun and my English Springer Spaniel AFC Rockeys Rage. My Dad trained this dog and he was an amazing hunting companion and friend. I was able to run him in many field trials and at that time I was the youngest person to ever run a dog in one of these events. He was very obedient and would work with myself when we were in the field and he probably knew more than I did at that point, but he would listen to me none the less.
In one particular trial that I was running rage I was unable to see over the brush to see him questing through the field. The judge later told my dad that while the dog was running I blew the whistle because I couldn’t see him, but that he was on a bird. Rage stopped and looked back like “what the heck the bird is this way.” Even though he knew where to bird was he listened to his partner and came back to me.
Rage is a lot like my current companion. Duke has been a great friend. He has one of the nicest personalities that I have seen in an animal. He is very loving and friendly at home and when we go out into the field he turns into a different dog and goes crazy for birds. He tracks birds very well and I know that if he takes on a scent and a bird is in the vicinity he will find it. I can take him anywhere in my car and he will just sit in the passengers seat and wait for me to pet him. He truly has been a great companion!
